Hamilton Smoke Opacity Testing is a family owned and operated business and has been keeping people and fleets California Air Resources Board or CARB complaint since 2005.  We are a mobile company specializing in HD I/M testing and Smoke Opacity Testing required by CARB. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that your vehicles stay compliant with CARB. We also offer minor repairs and BIT inspections.  We take pride in delivering top-notch services to our clients, helping them stay on the road with minimal downtime with after hours and weekend testing so your business can keep running!

New Requirements from CARB

​

ALL vehicles over 14,000 GVW will fall under this requirement.

​

Vehicles that will be tested by OBD (Onboard Diagnostic).

2013 model year or newer diesel engine and diesel hybrid systems

2018 model year or newer alternative fuel and alternative fuel systems

​

Vehicles that need a OVI (Opacity & Visual Inspection) will be tested the old way by the Smoke Opacity Meter or PSIP

2012 and older

Testing for 2024 will be once a year

Testing for 2025 will be done 2 times a year 

Testing for 2027 will be done 4 times a year

(subject to change by CARB)

Example:

2025 TESTING: If vehicles registration expiration is on May 21, the vehicles semi-annual (2 times a year) compliance deadlines would be on May 21, and November 21 of a given year.

2027 TESTING: Once testing becomes quarterly for OBD vehicles, compliance deadlines would be the 21st of May, Aug, Nov, and Feb.
